Canton High School's Physical Eduction's requirements and expectations

Class requirements:

1. Dress for class: Students must bring a change of clothes that is different then what was worn to school. Clothing must be conducive to active participation for each class. Recommended clothing could include sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts ( of apprpriate length ), and sneakers. Clothing must not present a health or safety hazard to the wearer or other participants and must meet all school dress codes.

2. Sneakers are required for activities for health and safety reasons. They must be tightened so as not to slip off the feet during activity.

3. No gum, this poses a choking hazard and is not necessary for activity.

4. No jewelry, Necklaces, large earrings, watches, bracelets and rings are a hazard to the wearer and others and are not necessary for activity.

Grading:

1. Participation (50% of your grade)
a. Prepared for class, being prepared means having appropriate clothing and sneakers. If the student's dress poses a health and/or safety risk the student will not be permitted to participate in the activity for the day, and the grade will be assessed -5 points. Every violation of a class rule will be a -2 points from the student's participation grade. These infractions would include chewing gum, jewelry, behavior, foul language, ect.

b. Participation in class: Students will be allowed 2 or 3 missed classes per marking period, depending on whether or not it is a block class or a period. After this the students must make up missed classes by coming in during a study hall or by completing assigned written work. Each missed class not made up will cost the student a -5.

2. Skills evaluation (25%)
For most units there will be a skill assessment given. Assessments will be graded with a percentage grade and an average of all skills assessments for the marking period will be computed for the overall grade in this category.

3. written evaluation (25%)
For most units there will be a written evaluation given at the end of the unit. The average of all written tests will be computed for the overall grade in this category.

Other Expectations:

1. Be on time to class, a continued habit of coming in late will be a class violation and a -2 points.

2. Secure all valuables. Leave them at home or lock them in your locker during class time. Lost and/or stolen items are not the responsibility of the Physical Education Department.

3. Respect. Students should have respect for themselves, classmates and faculty as well as the facility. This would encompass apprpriately adrressing faculty and other students, being considerate and keeping the facilty in good shape.

4. Good sportsmanship. Students are encouraged to play hard, but play fair. This makes class more enjoyable for everyone.

5. Appropriate language. There is no need for foul language in class and it will not be exceptable!

6. Have permission before using any equipment. Supervision by a faculty member must be present at all times equipment is in use.

7. Horseplay is absolutely unexceptable!

8. All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported to the teacher at the time of the injury.

9. Stay until dismissed. Students must remain in the locker rooms until given permission by instructor to leave.

Fall semester 2007

Due to construction of the new sports complex we will have very limited access to our out side facilities next school year.
